Judge - Wendy Macdonald

The Whittier Art Gallery is honored and pleased to have Wendy Macdonald returning as the judge for our December Linda Hall Miniature and Small Works Show. We thank her for taking the time out of her busy schedule, which includes her very active support and participation at the La Habra Art Association.

Wendy's lifetime of interest and practice in all art media found focus in the 80's when her love of architecture and tiny objects intersected. The pursuit of these passions has resulted in her creation of numerous, lovely, historically accurate miniature homes.

In judging the Miniature and Small Works exhibit, Wendy's exploration of the subject, she asks the question: "What is a Miniature?" Her answer explores the idea that if a miniature-sized artwork is reproduced at any size, from postage stamp to living room wall, does it retain the essence of the piece? Be it a painting, photograph, or sculpture, does it hold its own in composition, balance, and intended perspective? Would it still 'work' if the dimensions were even smaller or much larger?
